ABOUT

nutrospektif is an urban dance collective from Cologne, Düsseldorf and Stuttgart, Germany, that promotes the visibility and strengthening of urban dance cultures in a theatre context.
nutrospektif searches, researches and creates its unique dance language that places urban dance styles such as breaking, hip hop, house, popping or whacking in new contexts.

Urban dances are diverse, interdisciplinary and participatory, encouraging creativity and incorporate own norms, rules and values. Improvisation, innovation and individuality characterize them - therefore they are constantly evolving, while at the same time referring to their original context and their African-Diasporic cultural heritage. The philosophy of creation of nutrospektif builds on these vlaues, that give impulses for the creative work in the context of the stage.

Our performance formats are developed at the interface to other dance cultures, allow improvisational, performative dialogues and focus on the spontaneous creativity of individualists. Structured improvisation, theatrical and choreographic preparation enable innovative performance formats - such as moment(urb)an, Street vs. Stage or jamformance.

nutrospektif also supports young talents and the visibility of urban dance in the context of the theater stage, with educational artistic formats, the "Netzwerktreffen urbaner Tanz auf der Bühne" in cooperation with the tanzhaus nrw, and cooperations with culture and educational institutions.

nutrospektif is equally present in the subcultural urban dance scene, organising urban dance events (jams and battles), seeking for an exchange of urban dancers and contemporary dancers by several concepst such as the Open Session or Street vs. Stage (in cooperation with ZAIK and the MichaelDouglas collective).
